WHAT DID THE CUSTOMER NEED?

Our client is a key manufacturer within the plastics moulding industry and ships goods weekly to customers around Northern France.

They approached us in 2011, requiring a cost effective delivery solution that would support the ad-hoc delivery requirements of their customers orders.

Pallet quantities could range from 2 to 12 on a weekly basis, so we had to understand the customers priorities ranging from

1) Speed of delivery

2) Financial budgets

3) Type of goods and whether they are safe to mix with other goods (hazardous, perishable etc)

4) Whether the goods are fragile or stack-able

5)  Frequency of customer orders.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT SERVICE

Based on the customers requirements, it become clear the preferred and most cost effective service would be GROUPAGE

A Groupage service is ideal for small quantities of palletised goods, as your cargo shares trailer space with other customers cargo.

This means you only pay for the trailer space you are using, with the rest of the trailer cost shared by other goods/clients.

In this case, the goods are securely labelled, loaded and managed through the hub sorting process in Northern France, before being loaded on a local trailer for delivery to it’s final destination. We do also offer Groupage services that are sorted through UK hub and distribution centres, but in this case, our dedicated french trailers provide the best solution.

WHAT DOCUMENTATION IS REQUIRED AND WHAT PART DO FIRST EUROPEAN TAKE IN THIS?

All consignments travel with a CMR document. This CMR document is completed by the driver at the loading point, the team loading the truck then sign that they have given the driver the goods in a clean working order and keep a copy.

This same documents are then given to the offloading point to sign they have received the same goods in clean working order; again they keep a copy. The driver then hands all the paper work back into this office and they are sent to us at First European. Copies of CMR documents are available upon request.
