WHAT IS THE CUSTOMER DOING WITH THE CARGO?
Our client are specialists in the sale of Heavy Plant Transport and Machinery, exporting goods worldwide.
First European Logistics provide their shipping and logistics requirements for the export of heavy plant machinery from the UK to Europe.
In this shipment, we have arranged the transportation of a JCB to be collected from the UK and delivered to our clients end customer in Belgium.
HOW IS THE COST OF TRANSPORT & TRAILER TYPE CALCULATED?
This export shipment did not fill a trailer, meaning the client could take advantage of Part Load rates. That means they only pay for the 5 loading metre space (5 LDMS) they require.
There were several considerations to be made when planning which trailer and service to provide.
With the goods valued in the region of £50,000 the client had to decide whether to opt for a specialist insurance or standard BIFA conditions.
On recommendation, the client requested a hard boxed trailer as opposed to a curtain sided with additional internal side boards. A box trailer is more secure as there are less possible entry and exit points and also provides additional fixing features to fix the cargo in place.
The client needed a quick turnaround. The service we provided ensured the goods were collected in Halifax, UK on Monday and delivered within 24 hours in Belgium. Due to the size of the cargo, this is not classed as Express work, so the client was delighted to get such a prompt and reliable cargo time and such competitive rates.
TRANSPORTING VEHICLES WITH FUEL:
In many instances of vehicle transportation and export, you have to consider if there is any fuel on board. As this is a brand new vehicle, the client was required to confirm no fuel had ever been put into the JCB.
ROAD AND SHIPPING ROUTE:
First European specialise in road cargo and sea freight exports from the UK to Europe. The most cost and time effective route for this export was via road freight from Halifax to Dover, sea freight from Dover to Calais, then road freight through France to it’s destination in Poperinge on the border of Belgium.
WHAT DOCUMENTATION IS REQUIRED AND WHAT PART DO FIRST EUROPEAN TAKE IN THIS?
As the goods are staying within Europe the required documentation is a CMR document which is throughout the consignment.
This CMR document is completed by the driver at the loading point, where the loading team sign that they have provided the driver the goods in a clean working order. The Loading team keep a copy of the CMR. Another copy of the same CMR document is then given at the offloading point to sign, confirming they have received the same goods in clean working order. The driver then hands all the paper work back to First European. Copies of CMR documents are available upon request.
