With August looming large, we are entering holiday season across Europe.
What does this mean to Manufacturers, importers and exporters in the UK? … Quite a lot!
In short there are 2 elements that will affect your cargo transportation costs over the next 8 weeks, to September 2016.
1. CLOSURES – Across mainland Europe including Spain, France, Germany and Italy, manufacturers are getting ready to close down throughout August.
2. DRIVING BANS – France and Italy also impose strict day time driving bans for vehicles over 7.5 tonnes, limiting availability of movement on European roads and main transport routes.
How does this effect availability and price?
The closure of manufacturing has many knock on effects and movement of cargo across Europe will be massively reduced. Naturally as a full trailer completes it’s journey delivering cargo, the haulage company is looking for a return load back to it’s original departure country. This is an efficient way of managing fleets and reduces the cost for all parties.
A lack of manufacturing through holidays across Europe, means initially, a reduced demand for trailers. This means many hauliers allow drivers to take holidays and subsequently creates scenario of supply, unable to meet trailer demand. On the flip side, once a trailer is found, if there is a lack of manufacturing and need for cargo at the drop location, it means there is no return load to collect, subsequently increasing the cost of the original load.
We warn our customers about this every year and it’s key you plan ahead to avoid increase prices.
How can we support you through the Summer?
Trailers are still available albeit harder to come by, but and we can offer you 2 options. The first option is to let us know as soon as possible so that we can source a trailer at the best possible price.
If however you have left it too late and are struggling to source a one-way trailer, the second option is to book an Express Service. Whilst this is likely to be more expensive, it means you are able to get your cargo direct to it’s location on a one route service. Using our expertise, means we can plan your cargo’s route around the European road closures in major cities and countries .
